Hello, Gentle Reader. I mentioned before that I love books-on-tape, and here (hear!) is a site that offers samples.

I am intrigued by the title of Auguston Burrough's book, Magical Thinking.

I read an ad for it in the New Yorker while waiting for medical attention after my car collision one week ago. I was in Emergency from 2:30 PM to 3:00 AM!

Not broken, but twisted, I am getting Physio today, after subsisting on Tylenol 3's, sympathy and muscle relaxants.

More later...

1982 Honorable Mention: Lawn Chair Larry
It been a while, Gentle Reader, has it not?
The Christmas vortex is finally slowing, and here am I,
no cards sent, (sigh!)
no Christmas letter sent (only ONE Christmas email),
several presents undelivered, (I can see them from here, reproaching me)
and a few (to Hubbers) promised but not yet purchased!
(I wanted to go out with him for a shopping date, like we did for Fathers Day. It's more fun, and I can see for myself that things fit and that he likes them for sure.)
However, by and large, it's been a very nice Christmas.
The MIL gave me the gears and a giant guilt trip over working on Christmas Day, but we have since made up.
The boys, my family, his family, all seem to have liked their gifts. The boys got an XBox and four games as a group gift, plus several smaller sundry presents. I made a big hit with my second son, giving him size 14 moccasins.
We gave each other the Love Nest Theatre I wrote about previously.
A combination VCR/DVD/CD player was picked up as a mutual prezzie for $99CAN, which was hooked up to the gift-with-purchase TV and placed within the DIY pine-look cabinet, also $99CAN (which surprised us by looking so nice, either as a stand-alone or with the other bedroom furnishings and - wow - putting together so easily).
One son gave me a cookbook to make India food. Another gave me a CD of the latest Vinyl Cafe stories. I also got a CD case, an tire pressure gage, and other useful items.
Hubbers gave me the Chanel No. 5 he has for so long put himself on the record as preferring, which I had never, ever worn until this Christmas. (When I ask him HOW and WHERE and WITH WHOM he's learned the finer points of fragrance, he is... evasive.)
I also received several stretch velour lounge outfits from him. I am irresistable in velour!
It's delightful to watch what we like in our comfy cozy bed while the boys play XBox games. We recently rented the movie Danny Deckchair.
Very cute. Miranda Otto of LOTR and Rhys Ifans of Notting Hill , star.
This link leads to the true "inspiration" for the movie, a man known as Lawnchair Larry, who made it to the Darwin Awards, and lived to tell about it, (rare indeed, if only a temporary state. Poor man. Read the story, why doncha?).
My second son filled me with joy. He is joining the Manitoba Writers Guild. What a chip off the dear old family blocks! He is also thinking about University, B. Ed., again! My oldest son's workplace allows money and time off for educational pursuits. I hope he will take advantage of it!
My third son is out of sorts. He is starting to prune back on his possibilities. I don't like hearing him think lowly of himself. Not very good at this, only average at that - I want him to think a little BIGGER. He's at a stage where he hardly knows all he can do, because he has hardly tried to.
I myself am about to plunge back into night school - Human Physiology and Anatomy, twice a week, until spring.
Plus Pilates to keep trim, strong, flexible and poised.
Plus Romance Dancing for Hubs and I to explore a new aspect being a couple.
Happy New Year, my dear Reader. and a Happier New Year to us all.
